Abstrak

Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) and aloe vera leaf flesh (Aloe vera L.) contain bioactive constituents with potential value in topical preparations. This study formulated both plant materials into three shooting gel formulations (F0, FI, and FII) and evaluated their physicochemical characteristics, short-term physical stability, and preliminary skin tolerability. Papaya leaf extract and fresh aloe vera flesh were incorporated into a Carbopol 940-based gel at increasing amounts of 3, 4, and 5 g per 100 mL, respectively. All formulations were homogeneous and showed no visible phase separation or meaningful organoleptic change during a three-cycle temperature-cycling test. Mean pH values were 5.00 ± 0.50, 5.50 ± 0.50, and 5.50 ± 0.50 for F0, FI, and FII, respectively. Spreadability increased from 5.05 ± 0.05 to 6.05 ± 0.05 cm, whereas viscosity was 3115.00 ± 2.00, 3116.00 ± 2.00, and 2521.33 ± 11.24 cPs. One-way ANOVA showed no significant difference in pH (p = 0.422), but significant differences in spreadability and viscosity (both p < 0.001). No erythema or edema was observed in five volunteers under the conditions evaluated. FI (viscosity 3116.00 ± 2.00 cPs; spreadability 5.55 ± 0.05 cm) was selected as the candidate formulation because it maintained viscosity comparable with F0 while providing greater spreadability and a higher active-material content
