Abstrak
Eustachian tube dysfunction commonly occurs in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), particularly following chemoradiotherapy. Tubal dysfunction after chemoradiotherapy results from a combination of obstruction and functional impairment, making evaluation of Eustachian tube function essential. The Eustachian Tube Dysfunction Questionnaire-7 (ETDQ-7) is a validated, brief questionnaire used to identify patients at risk of Eustachian tube dysfunction. This study aimed to assess the association between ETDQ-7 scores and the results of Eustachian Tube Function Testing (ETF) and tympanometry in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients following chemoradiotherapy. This study used a cross-sectional analytic design conducted at the ENT-Head and Neck Surgery outpatient clinic from February to May 2026. Eustachian tube dysfunction was assessed using ETDQ-7 with a cut-off of ≥3, and results were compared with ETF and tympanometry findings. The association between variables was analyzed using the Fisher-Exact test. A total of 66 patients were included, with a mean age of 58.08±8.71 years, and the majority were male (75.8%). Based on ETDQ-7, 56.1% of patients had moderate-grade tubal dysfunction and 15.2% had severe-grade dysfunction. A significant association was found between ETF and ETDQ-7 (p<0,001; CC 0,583; Cramér's V 0,717; CI 95% 0,546–0,803) and between tympanometry and ETDQ-7 (p<0,001; CC 0,620; Cramér's V 791; CI 95% 0,673–0,864), with a stronger association observed for tympanometry compared to ETF. Eustachian tube dysfunction remains commonly found in NPC patients following chemoradiotherapy. ETDQ-7 scores show a significant association with ETF and tympanometry findings, suggesting its potential use as a simple and easily applicable initial screening method for detecting Eustachian tube dysfunction in NPC patients after chemoradiotherapy.
